Imagine a world where corporations and individuals would focus spontaneously on the very long-term future. Would that not create a more sustainable world, without requiring regulations or draconian international treaties? Of course, in reality we know that financial markets today are doing the exact opposite: they appear myopically drawn to the next-quarter earnings - to the very exclusion of any concerns for the proverbial seventh generation. Why is this? Why is long-term sustainability not of spontaneous business concern? – Bernard Lietaer
