The Dutch national award for best projects in sustainability in 2008 went to the Titanwood company. Accoya wood is a chemically treated wood of ordinary trees that surpasses the strength and durability of tropical woods. According to the press-release from the Dutch ministry of VROM, this chemical process leaves very little chemical waste, and can make a serious contribution to rainforest conservation. Accoya wood does not shrink or expand at different temperatures and does not rot.
